Canadian-born investor Doug Bergeron has served as Chief Executive Officer of VeriFone Systems, Inc. (NYSE: PAY) since its formation in July 2001. In late 2010, Bergeron partnered with Richard Petty and Andrew Murstein to purchase Richard Petty Motorsports.

In 2001, Bergeron and DGB Investments participated in the acquisition of VeriFone Systems from Hewlett-Packard in a transaction valued at $50 million. Today, VeriFone has a market capitalization of several billion dollars and Bergeron remains the largest individual shareholder. VeriFone is a software and telecommunications development company that designs, markets, and services electronic payment solutions that enable secure electronic payments among consumers, merchants, and financial institutions worldwide.

Prior to his work with VeriFone, Bergeron served in a variety of executive management positions at SunGard Data Systems Inc., including President of SunGard Futures Systems and Group CEO of SunGard Brokerage Systems Group. He was also President of Gores Technology Group.

Bergeron was educated at York University in Toronto, Canada and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science. He also earned a Master of Science from the University of Southern California.

Bergeron lives in California with his wife Sandra. They have five children.
